Fayetteville, N.C. Today the Cumberland County Business Council (CCBC) announced the First Annual Corps Community Partnership event, a joint initiative between Fort Bragg and its local host community Cumberland County/ Fayetteville, N.C. Beginning Wednesday October 27th, 2004, the Garrison Commanders of Fort Benning, Fort Stewart, Fort Drum, Fort Campbell, Pope Air Force Base and community leaders from Columbus, GA, Hinesville, GA, Watertown, NY, Clarksville, TN and Hopkinsville, KY will come together for the purpose of sharing information and best practices that will help make their communities even more military friendly.
Fayetteville recognizes the value that Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base bring to our area, said Tony Chavonne, Co-Chair of the event. However, we also realize that many other Corps Communities deal with the same challenges that are specific to having a military installation as a community partner. This event allows us to come together to learn from each other, and ultimately enact programs that will improve everyones quality of life.
The Corps Communities Partnership is an initiative that resulted from the Greater Fayetteville Futures and CCBCs Leveraging the Military committee and Government Relations subcommittee. Both committees have been focused on initiatives that will improve community and business relations with the military and their families. Their successes have ranged from community initiatives such as Project Care, a community action readiness project for spouses of deployed solders, to receiving funding for a statewide military business center that will help state companies to compete for Department of Defense Contracts and developing a website geared to helping military spouses find jobs in the community.
This Corps Community Summit will be a great opportunity for us learn from our special guests and an even greater opportunity to show our Corps Community visitors why we are so very proud to be the home of the XVIII Airborne Corps, said George Breece, Co-Chair of the event.
The Cumberland County Business Council is a community initiative that evolved from Greater Fayetteville Futures, a community wide planning process. The purpose of the CCBC is to coordinate the efforts of the Fayetteville Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Corporation of Fayetteville and the Fayetteville Area Economic Development Corporation.
