The Downtown Development Corporation (DDC) announced that the Fayetteville City Council voted to endorse the proposal for the “Capitol” Entertainment project during their March 28th meeting. Local Fayetteville developer will complete the project. This vote authorizes the DDC and city staff to negotiate the final deal and execute the necessary agreements to finance and construct the project.

"We are extremely pleased that the council voted to support the project and look forward to their support of future projects," said Kirk deViere, Chair of the DDC. "The combined private investment of the this project and the recently approved “Festival Park Plaza” project will mean $15 million in new dollars for downtown revitalization efforts.”

The “Capitol” Entertainment project is a multi-zoned entertainment facility patterned after the very successful national “Dave & Buster’s” franchise and will be housed in the historic Capitol Department store building. It will provide food, drink and an extensive array of interactive entertainment attractions such as pocket billiards, shuffleboard, state-of the art simulators, virtual reality and traditional carnival-style amusements and games of skill. The developer is Dr. Melvin Henderson of Fayetteville, NC.

This project stems from a community effort “Renaissance Plan” approved in 2002 that was adopted to revitalize Fayetteville’s depressed downtown market. The DDC was tasked to manage and implement that downtown urban revitalization through the construction of several public-private “impact” development partnerships. It is the ultimate goal of the DDC to restructure the downtown economy utilizing these public resources to leverage private investment to the point that private market forces alone will drive development.

The Cumberland County Business Council is a community initiative that evolved from Greater Fayetteville Futures, a community wide planning process. The purpose of the CCBC is to coordinate the efforts of the Fayetteville Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Corporation of Fayetteville and the Fayetteville Area Economic Development Corporation.
