FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. North Carolinas Fort Bragg recently earned the Army Times Best Post Award for 2003. Based on a readership survey conducted by the military publication, this award is given to the installation judged to be the best overall Army post with a superior quality of life. Readers of the Army Times include service men and women, their families and military retirees. It is the second time Fort Bragg has captured top honors since the Army Times began its award program in 2001. Survey results this year also showed Fort Bragg to be the best post for retirement.
As Fort Braggs home community, Fayetteville, North Carolina, shares the pride of this recognition. In addition to rating on-base facilities and services, criteria for the award included relations with the local community, the quality of housing and schools in the host community, overall cost of living, opportunities for spouse employment, higher education opportunities, and off-base entertainment available for families and singles. We believe this is a reflection of the outstanding livability of our area, says Fayetteville Mayor Marshall Pitts, Jr., as well as the excellent rapport among our civilian, business, and military populations.
While results of the Army Times survey indicate that the greater Fayetteville area is an attractive place to live, work and play, theres also another side to the story: the vital contributions made by military personnel and their families to the community. Many serve as community leaders, volunteers, coaches, Sunday School teachers and more. In addition, Fayetteville benefits from an outstanding workforce that includes many military spouses and retiring military who have the high-tech skills, unique experiences, leadership and discipline that help make local business and industry successful. Members of the military and their families are an integral and valuable part of our community, says Mayor Pitts. We are also fortunate that so many retiring military personnel choose to make Fayetteville their home, he adds. |
