Car Dealerships in Fayetteville, NC: Skibo & Raeford Rd Guide

By FayettevilleNC.net Editorial Staff•••1086 words

Most Fayetteville new-car dealers sit on two corridors: Skibo Road, home to Rick Hendrick Toyota, Lee Hyundai and Fayetteville Automall, and Raeford Road, with Bryan Honda, Reed-Lallier Chevrolet and Flow Nissan. Liberty Ford, Fayetteville Dodge Ram and CarMax sit nearby. Budget for North Carolina's highway use tax at titling; military members are not exempt from it, though nonresident service members may avoid county vehicle property tax.

Fayetteville has a large car market for a city its size, driven by Fort Bragg service members arriving, deploying and moving on. New-car dealers cluster on two corridors, and used car lots line the roads closest to post. This guide maps the main franchised dealers confirmed open in October 2026 and explains the North Carolina taxes, inspection rules and consumer protections that apply when you buy.

Franchised dealers by corridor

Ratings are a Google snapshot from October 2026; dealers with thousands of reviews include both sales and service feedback.

Used car lots near Fort Bragg

Independent used car dealers line Yadkin Road, Bragg Boulevard and Raeford Road. Highly rated examples in October 2026 included Bragg Hill Auto (5547 Yadkin Rd), Lee's Auto Sales of Fayetteville (215 Meed Ct) and Elite Auto Sales (5303 Raeford Rd). DriveTime on Raeford Road sells with in-house financing.

Some lots near post advertise "buy here, pay here" or bad-credit financing. Before signing:

  • Get pre-approved by a bank or credit union first so you can compare the dealer's rate.
  • Read the federal Buyers Guide sticker on the window, which says whether the car is sold "as is" or with a warranty.
  • Have an independent mechanic inspect the car. See our auto repair guide for shops.
  • Check the VIN for open recalls and a vehicle history report.
  • Don't let anyone pressure you to sign the same day. North Carolina has no general cooling-off period for car purchases.
  • Bring the paperwork to Fort Bragg's legal assistance office if anything looks wrong.

Taxes and fees when you buy

Highway use tax. North Carolina charges a highway use tax when a vehicle is titled in the state, in place of a sales tax. NCDMV states plainly that military personnel, resident or nonresident, are not exempt from the highway use tax. The tax is collected when you title the car at the dealer or at a license plate agency, so include it in your budget.

Vehicle property tax. Counties tax vehicles each year, and NCDMV collects that tax with your registration renewal. Cumberland County Tax Administration says active-duty, nonresident service members may be exempt from personal property tax on vehicles. To claim it, submit your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) showing your ETS date for the month the vehicle was registered. Check your bill to see whether a full or 50% partial exemption has already been applied.

Dealer fees. Dealers charge documentation and administrative fees. Ask for an out-the-door price in writing that lists every fee, tax and add-on before you agree to anything.

Inspections and registration

  • Dealer sales: new and used vehicles must be inspected before retail sale in North Carolina, and that inspection is valid until the plate comes up for renewal.
  • Private sales: the vehicle must pass an inspection before it can be registered unless it passed one within the previous 12 months.
  • Cumberland County emissions: as of October 2026, Cumberland still requires emissions testing alongside the safety inspection. The EPA proposed approving the state's plan to end testing in 19 counties in May 2026, but it isn't in effect yet.
  • Moving in: new residents can register without an inspection and inspect at the next renewal.

New car problems: the NC Lemon Law

North Carolina's New Motor Vehicles Warranties Act, known as the Lemon Law, requires manufacturers to repair defects that affect a new vehicle's use, value or safety during the first 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. If the manufacturer can't fix the problem after a reasonable number of attempts, you may be entitled to a replacement or refund. Claims run against the manufacturer, not the dealer. Keep every repair order.

PCS timing tips

  • Buying on arrival: NCDMV requires proof of North Carolina liability insurance to register a vehicle here, so set up coverage before you visit the plate agency.
  • Selling before you leave: CarMax and most franchised dealers make written purchase offers. Get two or three before you sell.
  • Overseas assignments: NCDMV requires a bill of sale and a North Carolina inspection to register a vehicle bought overseas.

Our PCS guide and Fort Bragg relocation guide cover the rest of the move.
