Fayetteville State University: Tuition & Admissions Guide

By FayettevilleNC.net Editorial Staff•Verification & Data Standards••665 words

Prospective student and military family guide to Fayetteville State University (FSU) at 1200 Murchison Road, explaining NC Promise $500-per-semester in-state undergraduate tuition (before fees, housing, food, and books), nonresident tuition policies, the conditional FSU Military Tuition Scholarship, UNC transfer articulation pathways, and admissions contacts.

Fayetteville State University (FSU) is a public historically Black university in the University of North Carolina System. For a prospective student, the useful questions are which admission route applies, how prior credits fit the intended degree and what the full cost will be after confirmed aid.

This independent guide is not an admissions or financial-aid decision. University information was checked September 16, 2026; confirm the requirements for your entry term directly with FSU.

Start with your degree and admission route

FSU's university information and history identify its public-university role and founding in 1867. Use the current catalog to investigate a particular degree rather than choosing from an undated list of supposedly popular subjects.

First-time undergraduate, transfer, returning, graduate and online applicants may need different materials. From the official FSU website, open the admission route that matches your situation and confirm the deadline, required records and any program-specific application.

Do not interpret a general admission offer as confirmation of entry to every degree program. Ask the department about prerequisites, course sequence, delivery format and any placement or separate admission requirements.

Tuition: separate NC Promise from total attendance cost

Both FSU's NC Promise page and the UNC System's NC Promise page list $500 per semester in tuition for in-state undergraduates. Fees, housing, food, books and other applicable charges are separate; $500 is not a complete semester budget.

Nonresident tuition needs direct confirmation. As checked on September 16, 2026, FSU's NC Promise page lists $4,000 per semester beginning fall 2026, while the UNC System NC Promise page lists $3,500 for students entering in 2026 (and $2,500 for earlier cohorts). Rather than using either number as a guaranteed quote, ask FSU Student Accounts to confirm the tuition that applies to your entry term and residency classification in writing.

Build your comparison from the university's itemized charges and your actual aid offer. Include living costs for your housing arrangement and ask whether any listed insurance charge can be waived under the university's rules. Do not subtract an unapproved scholarship from your budget.

Military Tuition Scholarship: conditional, not automatic

FSU's current institutional-scholarship listing describes a Military Tuition Scholarship with eligibility, application and renewal conditions. Military affiliation alone does not establish that a student will attend at no cost.

The listing includes full-time undergraduate enrollment of at least 12 credits, a minimum 2.5 GPA, satisfactory academic progress, required financial-aid and military-status documentation, and annual reapplication. Ask the financial-aid office how the conditions apply to your student category and first term.

The scholarship is structured around remaining eligible tuition after other applicable aid, not a promise to pay every attendance cost. Confirm coverage, award limits, the current deadline and the interaction with military education benefits directly with FSU. Do not reuse a deadline from an older scholarship FAQ.

Transferring from FTCC

FSU's FTCC transfer announcement describes an admission pathway for students who complete qualifying associate-degree and academic requirements. It is not a blanket promise that any FTCC course will satisfy any FSU major.

Before choosing courses, ask an advisor for a written plan showing which credits meet general education, major and elective requirements. Compare that advice with FSU's baccalaureate degree plans and confirm whether your intended program has separate entry conditions.

A useful transfer estimate should state the remaining courses and likely terms to completion, not just the total credits accepted by the university. Keep a copy of the plan and revisit it if you change majors.

Questions to resolve before applying or paying a deposit

Confirm the exact degree and format, the admission deadline, your residency classification, the itemized cost and which aid is approved rather than merely available. Transfer applicants should also obtain an official credit evaluation; military-connected students should confirm the interaction between benefits and scholarship funding.

For a campus visit, arrange it through FSU and ask how to reach the department or office you need. The university lists its address as 1200 Murchison Road, Fayetteville, NC 28301, and its admissions contact as 910-672-1371.
