Tuition for 2026-27

North Carolina's General Assembly sets community college tuition statewide, and the system kept rates flat for 2026-27:

StudentPer credit hourSemester maximum (16+ credits)
North Carolina resident$76$1,216
Non-resident$268$4,288

Student fees are added on top and vary by program. Many students pay little or nothing out of pocket: the state's Next NC Scholarship is awarded to eligible North Carolina students who file the FAFSA, with no separate application. FTCC's FAFSA school code is 007640. Interest-free payment plans are available.

Military families and in-state tuition

To qualify for the resident rate, most students must show they have lived in North Carolina for 12 consecutive months, using the state's online Residency Determination Service (RDS). Active duty service members stationed in North Carolina and their dependents can qualify for the in-state rate under state law even without 12 months of residency; the RDS questionnaire asks about military status, so answer those questions carefully.

How to Enroll

FTCC has an open-door admissions policy: high school graduates and anyone 18 or older can enroll, though some programs (especially health sciences) have extra admission requirements.

  1. Complete RDS to get your Residency Certification Number.
  2. Apply online as a new or returning student. If you have been away for one academic year, reapply.
  3. Send official transcripts from high school or a high school equivalency program, any previous colleges, AP or CLEP tests, and military training (Joint Services Transcript or Community College of the Air Force).
  4. Activate your student email, Self-Service and Canvas accounts.
  5. Meet an advisor to choose courses and build an academic plan.
  6. Pay or set up aid: FAFSA, VA education benefits, military Tuition Assistance or a payment plan.

Help for Service Members, Veterans and Spouses

Fort Bragg families make up a large share of FTCC's students, and the college runs offices on post as well as on campus.

  • All American Veterans Center on the Fayetteville campus handles VA education benefit certification for veterans and dependents. You must request certification every semester through the VSO portal.
  • Bragg Training and Education Center and the Pope Army Airfield office help active duty soldiers with counseling, registration, testing and Tuition Assistance.
  • Transition Tech offers free industry-focused certificates, resume help and mock interviews to transitioning service members through a partnership with NCWorks.
  • A VA Veteran Success on Campus counselor is assigned to FTCC to help students using VA education and employment benefits.

A few VA rules trip up new students:

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) students need at least one in-person class to get the full monthly housing allowance, and get no housing allowance at half-time or less.
  • VA will not pay for online remedial or prerequisite courses (for example ENG-025 or MAT-025). Those must be taken in person.
  • You must keep a GPA above 2.0 to stay eligible.
  • All prior college transcripts must be on file before VA certification.

For more on post-service planning, see the veteran transition resources guide. Spouses can pair FTCC's short-term credentials with the military spouse employment guide.

University Transfer

FTCC's Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees are built to transfer to the UNC System under North Carolina's Comprehensive Articulation Agreement, so general education credits generally move as a block to schools such as Fayetteville State University.

FTCC also has a direct agreement with Methodist University:

  • Guaranteed admission with an associate degree and at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Up to 64 credits transfer.
  • Up to 8 credits at Methodist while still at FTCC, at FTCC's tuition rate.
  • No application fee, plus Methodist's A to B Scholarship, which covers remaining tuition for eligible Pell Grant and NC Need-Based Scholarship recipients who enroll full time on campus.

High School Students

Through its High School Connections program, FTCC lets eligible Cumberland County high school students earn college credit, and some graduate with an associate degree alongside their diploma. Students who want a full early college experience can also look at the county's early college high schools, several of which partner with local colleges.

Workforce and Continuing Education

Not every FTCC student is working toward a degree. Continuing education courses cover industry certifications, licensing prep and personal-interest classes, and some have scholarships. In August 2026 the college announced that its HOPE program covers 100% of tuition and fees for eligible students starting careers in child care.
