Fayetteville NC Transportation & Parking: FAST, Amtrak, FAY
Fayetteville is mainly a driving city, but you can get around without a car. FAST buses cost $1.25 a ride or $3 for a day pass and run about 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. from the downtown transit center, which also serves Greyhound. Amtrak stops at 472 Hay Street, FAY has flights to Charlotte and Atlanta, and downtown parking costs $1 an hour on weekdays.
Most people in Fayetteville drive, but the city has more transit options than many visitors expect. FAST runs city buses from a downtown transit center that also handles Greyhound and Megabus. Amtrak stops a block away on Hay Street, and Fayetteville Regional Airport (FAY) has daily flights to Charlotte and Atlanta. This guide covers each option, the main highways, and what parking costs downtown, as of October 2026.
Driving: I-95, I-295 and the Main Corridors
Interstates
- I-95 runs north-south along the east side of the city. The airport is off Exit 44 via Claude Lee Road, according to the City of Fayetteville airport page.
- I-295, the Fayetteville Outer Loop, is now complete. NCDOT opened the final 5-mile segment, between Raeford and Camden roads, on November 25, 2025. The 39-mile loop meets I-95 at Exit 58 in Eastover and Exit 38 in northern Robeson County, so through traffic and Fort Bragg commuters can bypass the city's surface roads.
- I-95 widening north of the city, from Exit 55 to Exit 71, is taking the interstate from four lanes to eight. Expect work zones; our infrastructure and road projects guide has the status of this and other projects.
Local corridors
The All American Freeway links Fort Bragg with Skibo Road, Morganton Road and Owen Drive. Skibo Road (US 401 Bypass) is the main retail strip around Cross Creek Mall. Raeford Road, Bragg Boulevard and Ramsey Street carry most other cross-town traffic. Raeford Road is under construction for a raised median between Bunce and Brighton roads, so allow extra time on the west side.
Fort Bragg gates
The All American Gate closed for construction on July 27, 2026, and the garrison says the work may last up to 24 months, as our Fayetteville developments tracker notes. Check open gates and hours before you commute; see the Fort Bragg gates and commute guide.
FAST: Fayetteville's City Bus System
The Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) is run by the City of Fayetteville. According to the city's transit page, it operates 18 fixed routes with 33 buses, plus an express route and FASTTrac! paratransit.
FAST fares (as of October 2026)
The Fares and Passes page lists:
| Fare or pass | Adult | Discount | Youth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single trip | $1.25 | $0.50 | $1.25 |
| One-day pass (24 hours) | $3.00 | $1.50 | $2.00 |
| 5-day pass | $11.00 | $5.50 | $11.00 |
| 30-day pass | $40.00 | $17.00 | $30.00 |
| Summer Fun Pass (June 1-Aug. 31) | n/a | n/a | $15.00 |
Children under 6 ride free with a fare-paying adult. Discount fares require a FAST Discount ID, and reduced-fare applications are available for seniors, students and riders with disabilities. Students at FTCC, Fayetteville State, Methodist University and Miller-Motte College can buy a Student Semester Pass in the Token Transit app for $55 in fall and spring and $40 in summer.
How to pay and track buses
- Drivers do not give change, so carry exact fare.
- Passes are sold at the FAST Transit Center and at four Carlie C's grocery stores (Eutaw, Bordeaux, Riley Road and Cedar Creek).
- Track buses in real time with TransLoc.
Service hours
The city's FAQ lists service from 5:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 8:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Other parts of the same page give slightly different times, so check your route's timetable. There is no service on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday or Christmas, and buses do not run late at night, so plan a taxi or ride-hailing trip for evenings out.
FASTTrac! paratransit
FASTTrac! provides door-to-door ADA paratransit for certified riders who cannot use fixed routes because of a disability, with a fleet of 21 vehicles. Rides use punch passes: $2 for one ride, $17.50 for 10 and $35 for 20.
The FAST Transit Center
The transit center fills the downtown block bounded by Robeson, Franklin, Winslow and Russell streets. It has 16 covered bus bays, public restrooms and Wi-Fi. Greyhound uses the center at 505 Franklin Street, and Megabus stops on Russell Street.
Amtrak: Fayetteville Station
Fayetteville's Amtrak station is at 472 Hay Street, in a 1911 depot listed on the National Register of Historic Places, about a block from the transit center. Two long-distance trains stop here: the Palmetto (New York to Savannah) and the Silver Meteor (New York to Florida), according to NC By Train. Northbound trains reach Washington, D.C., and New York without a change. Station staffing hours are limited, so buy tickets on Amtrak's station page or app, and check times there, since schedules and service interruptions change.
Flying: Fayetteville Regional Airport (FAY)
Fayetteville Regional Airport is at 400 Airport Road, south of downtown. American Airlines flies daily to Charlotte and Delta flies daily to Atlanta, so most trips connect through one of those hubs. Rental counters include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National/Alamo and Thrifty, and taxis serve the terminal. There is no airport shuttle. Our FAY airport guide covers parking rates, TSA hours and when Raleigh-Durham (RDU), about 83 miles north, is worth the drive.
Downtown Parking
Downtown parking is run by Park Fayetteville. As of October 2026, its facilities page lists these rules:
- Rates: $1 an hour with a $5 daily maximum in city lots and decks. Monthly permits cost $50 a space.
- Free times: Before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday, unless a special event is underway.

- Paying: Pay at the lot paystation on arrival, or at the exit in the two decks. On-street spaces have no time limit and accept the ParkMobile app.

Which Option Should You Use?
- Visiting for a weekend: Rent a car at FAY or RDU. Downtown is walkable once you park, but attractions such as the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, Cape Fear Botanical Garden and Fort Bragg are spread out.
- Living without a car: FAST covers the main corridors at low cost, but service ends around 7 p.m. Live near a route to the transit center.
- Traveling to the Northeast: Amtrak from Hay Street avoids airport connections.
- Daily Fort Bragg commute: Use I-295 or the All American Freeway, and check gate status first. Our commuting guide has more planning tips.
